Tales Vinyl Tells-”stories record albums convey”

Tales Vinyl Tells is my podcast that evolved into my radio show that airs weekly on RadioFreeNashville. I had quite a few LPs that I collected in the late 60s and 70s and I always knew the magic of the albums of that era of album-oriented rock brought back memories of times, people, smells, tastes and feelings. I hope it does for you too. Back-stories and album liner notes tie the tunes together. I’m your host Brian Hallgren and you should hear the Tales Vinyl Tells!

Episodes

Episode 14: Here’s an interview with my friend of over 50 years, Bill Davis. We talk about our work together at WMUM and WBUS, along with some memories of our colleague, Gil Colquitt, who pushed hard to get Bruce a gig. That’s as in Springsteen. Another summer fun time episode. Allmans, ELP, Sly and The Band. Enjoy the tales Brian and Bill tell.

Special Episode: It’s patriotic to protest and in response to the deaths of numerous African Americans like George Floyd, Aumaud Aubery, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor involved with white police officers or those who think they have the authority to take a life, I am moved, in truth infuriated, at the way these brothers and sisters have been killed. This is my protest episode. Weep, scream, do what you need to do to stay sane, but most of all, Protest! Take peaceful action. Get involved to bring about peace, equality and justice for all people.

Episode 7: We interviewed Chris Leuzinger who is a Nashville studio musician and we’ll hear his work in his years of touring and playing with Crystal Gayle and Garth Brooks, who was chosen to be awarded this year’s Gershwin Prize by the Library of Congress. Musically, we’ll hear Iron Butterfly, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band with Mike Bloomfield, and believe it or not, we going to serve you some Peace and Quiet and The Band, not the “thing”. Enjoy and join the TVT Album Club. Thanks for turning us on.

Here’s another replay of the live radio program. I did some bad math and didn’t time things out to end at 6:00 so had to take the Doobie tune off the live playlist but tossed it back in when I edited the playback. Gobbledygook to you maybe, but I said I’d “definitely share a Doobie” and here it is. A very heavy duty Deep Purple tune from 1970 winds this one up but, oh man! Between Rockin’ Elton and then, there’s Dan Fogelberg, Boston and more. This is a great one for headphones! BTW, did you contact a dermatologist yet?
Early voting in Tennessee starts Friday July 15th and is open till Saturday July 30th. WE NEED YOUR VOTE! YOU MATTER!! Thanks.

Episode 6: Features Shuggie Otis, Derek and the Dominoes, The Boss and many more. Listen and feel the music of the late 60s and 70s from LPs. A bit scratchy but ear candy anyway. Thanks for listening!

Episode 4: We interview David Wood. He has so much music in his soul and we had fun with this. Music this episode includes Mike and The Mechanics, Beatles, Ace, Eagles, Hendrix and much more. Listen to it louder. It sounds better.

This replay of a podcast I recorded in 2020 celebrates our nation’s independence with Jimi, Simon and Garfunkel, Steppenwolf, America (why not?) and more. Karla Bonoff is the spotlighted songwriter and we’re having fun! July 6th should be live again with more LP cuts from the 60s and 70s, hope you’ll join me Wednesday a 5 PM on RadioFreeNashville.org, on Streema and if you’re in Nashville, try us at 103.7 and 107.1 FM. Happy Independence Day!
Let me encourage you if you spend time in the sun or have in the past or if you have used or use tanning beds, please be sure to see a dermatologist. I’ve just had a melanoma cut out of my head and it’s no fun and can be deadly. My hairstylist found it and luckily it seems to be serious but not deadly, though it could be if not detected early. Take care of your skin. Have your partner check you out too. Ticks hide, so can melanomas. Peace.
