Tales Vinyl Tells-”stories record albums convey”
Tales Vinyl Tells is my podcast that evolved into my radio show that airs weekly on RadioFreeNashville. I had quite a few LPs that I collected in the late 60s and 70s and I always knew the magic of the albums of that era of album-oriented rock brought back memories of times, people, smells, tastes and feelings. I hope it does for you too. Back-stories and album liner notes tie the tunes together. I’m your host Brian Hallgren and you should hear the Tales Vinyl Tells!

Episode 26: Happy New Year! “ I believe ‘21’s gonna be a good year”. That’s where we start this episode and we continue our World Tour 2020 and add 2021. Today we travel to Asia with Asia and Lorde, then to the land down under with one of Australia’s national anthems and Little River Band, not to mention an old one about a kangaroo. All our podcasts are recorded and uploaded in stereo, so if you can, listen on stereo equipment. You’ll get some clicks and pops, but full effect. Enjoy! And have a great safe year.

Episode 25: This is the final episode for 2020. This is the next leg of World Tour 2020, and the tour will continue into 2021, when we’ll travel to Asia, Russia, Australia, Antarctica and a continent that’s hard to find. Right now though we’re heading to England and Europe with Pablo Cruise, Toto and John Mayall. There are more too. A little more volume will allow you to hear things that you may not have years ago as digital technology is very defining. Enjoy and Happy New Year.

Episode 24: On December 20, 2019, I released episode 1 of Tales Vinyl Tells so this you might say is our First Birthday. That has me thinking, “If TVT was born on 12/20/19, wouldn’t this be the 2nd birthday?” Regardless, we’re up and away with the 2nd leg of our World Tour 2020 as we buzz around the US including Kentucky. I want to honor my friends (and they’re sisters), Karen and Kim, some mighty kind and fun Kentucky women. Next stop is Brazil with a classic and some new ones. Cuba’s nice to visit and the Caribbean is hurricane-free for right now, so a good time to visit. I bet you will hear at least one song today that you’ve never heard before and one that rings a bell but not loudly. Many are classics and it’s all fun! Hope you’ve enjoyed these so far and had as much fun as I have in putting them together for you. Best of the holidays to you!! And will you please wear the mask, keep your distance and wash those hands! I want to hear from you now and later.

Episode 23: Our first leg of the 7 Continents World Tour 2020. Sure, it’s imaginary but it’s safe and healthy and has some pretty good music in it. Climb aboard! The upcoming episode or more will include visits to Brazil, Cuba, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and now you can name the other continents. Today, we hear coast to coast, to Canada and Mexico. Hope you enjoy what you hear. Remember, its in stereo so dont be afraid to listen well and volume it up.

Episode 22: We continue our chat with Bob Luckin, artist and audiophile, and we talk about some music you might want to check out because they are deep in the mainstream, and we hear from Poco, Thelma and Louise music, an alternate version of a month song and more. All TVTs are better with headphones or give it some volume because we’ve got some good ones on all the podcasts. Enjoy “Thunderbird” with Pete Haycock and Hans Zimmer especially!

Episode 21: It took some time to get this one ready for you and I hope you’ll find it worth the wait. I had a chat with my new friend, Bob Luckin, a while ago and he has some great suggestions of music to listen to and videos to watch that just might make you feel better but mostly, that might lift your soul. Featured tunes include Finlandia from Sibelius, a song that spanned 3 decades, a remake of a Lennon composition and more. I hope you like the path we took on this one. Mr. Luckin’s new book is called The Diary of a Mindful Dog. It’s touching, insightful, and smart. And it’s very fun to read.

Episode 20: This is a monumental task to get these podcasts put together and up to my standards for listening and dancing pleasure. Haha. I'm finding that music can lift a weary soul and mine is weary from all the politicking and Covid crap. I wanted to play happy upbeat tunes so grabbed The Doobies with an invitation and played Pink Floyd from my Obsured by Clouds LP. The music from Steve Winwood is spotlighted today, there’s a song by Heart, a fave of mine from Marc Cohn, Walking in Memphis, and a few more. Hope it’s a good one for your ears and your head. Stay well and make sure to vote!

Episode 19: Hey, it’s #19! I had great fun when I was 19, when a lot of this music was fresh on vinyl and 8 track tape. The age of my teens, though, was ending and soon I was 20 and soon we’ll be on #20. Hope you enjoy my salute to the Great City by the Bay, San Francisco, which includes The Animals, Starship and more. Also, we hear Van Morrison, Joe Walsh and I share some Doobies. Email me at TalesVinylTells@gmail.com. You can help program a future Tales Vinyl Tells. Thanks in advance. Meanwhile, enjoy episode 19. Like Van sings, “Turn it up!”

Episode 18: Moving through the episodes at a turtle’s pace. We’ve got an interview this time with Mike Zeiher, who got the ball rolling at that great radio station, WMUM FM, that was on Lake Worth Beach, Florida in 1970. Hope you enjoy the journey back to that time and that music. Music this time is from Spirit, King Crimson, The Airplane at Woodstock and more. It’s better in stereo, that’s how it’s recorded. A little volume too, please. Still downloadable, free and no ads. Enjoy! And thanks for the positive comments.

Episode 17: This is the love episode, suggested by Linda and approved by me. You’ll hear tunes about good love, lost love and I can think of a few that could make a 2nd love episode possible. Hear Arthur Lee and LOVE, Pure Prairie League, Chamber Brothers, Beatles and more. Listen loud, listen often. Replays are a treat too!
